Artistic approach

My work explores the meeting of nature and femininity, of instinct and symbol.

Floral and animal forms blend into feminine faces to give birth to hybrid figures, at once powerful and vulnerable.

I explore the tensions between the real and the imaginary, matter and spirituality, delicacy and strength.

The textures, painstakingly worked, root each piece in matter while letting a more inward dimension surface.

I open up paths and correspondences, without seeking to impose a single reading.

A self-taught French-Portuguese painter, Maria das Dores builds a world where flowers, animals and feminine figures meet.

A master craftsman hairdresser, she began by showing her work in her own salon, turning that space into her first place of artistic expression.

Her work then opened up to other venues: restaurants, galleries, the artists' village of Marols, and then internationally through Artboxy.
